Myself and a friend of mine are starting a Rowan based club for libertarians and constitutinalists. We are still in the early stages but I figured that this forum was as good as any about spreading the word. Our current group is running through facebook until we beef up our numbers. Also the group is currently only set up for Libertarians but we decided to expand it to our Constitution Party brethren. Anyway if you happen to be a Rowan student or just a general supporter then drop by our facebook page and say hi. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=165640292956

Re: Christie or Corzine? (sj)

Well, governor Corzine certainly looks fit, but if waist size is a determining factor, then perhaps we should beware of the skinnies?

NJ has been #1 in so many unfavorable categories not since yesterday, he knew it when he came in - and what has he done to change that? I don't see any improvement. Where are the wonderful things he promised, if anyone cares to remember? I do! We are drowning in debt. I still have the privilege of paying the most obscene taxes in the entire country, highest insurance costs, and something I thought to be a strictly European phenomenon - taxes on taxes (here they're called "fees", in hope that the lemmings don't notice). Oh yes, and I pay to support the drug dealing, littering, swearing, very fit and healthy young men who spend their entire day on the street and once in a while entertain themselves by vandalizing my business, my vehicles and threaten me with physical violence if I dare protest - and no, this is not in Camden. I guess going to school, getting a degree and a job is for losers...

There's no such thing as free lunch; it may not come from your pocket, but there's always someone who pays for it.

Definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. No matter how much and how hard you beat your head against the wall - it won't move. But, boy, will your head hurt!

If someone beats me up me and tells me he'll beat me some more do I choose that person and continue taking the beating? Or do I choose someone who says very little? I certainly don't know that I won't end up getting beaten again, but I'll take my chances with the "mystery box" any day! Who knows, maybe he won't beat me after all? Hey, I know the other one will definitely hurt me!

Let's give the fat man a chance. If he does a poor job - in 4 years we kick him out and give the next person a chance. Vote! Whatever/whoever you believe in - that one day in a year you should have gone out to be heard! That's the only thing you can do to help yourself and others around you. There's not much to be happy about here, but I refuse to fall into the abyss of despair and negativity.

PS - Eat chocolate. It's good for you! Not everyone who overeats is fat, some are blessed with seemingly bottomless stomachs and astronomical metabolic rate, others are not - so don't judge by the looks. You'd be mighty surprised if you saw me!

I'm seeing in the news that AARP is going to endorse the democratic health care plan. You would think that a group designed for 50 year olds and up would have acquired some wisdom that once the government gets involved in something it is going to become corrupted and taxes are going to go up. I guess it's good to bend over and say hey! please find some way to raise my taxes. Look how just in your town how the police are being instructed to give out more frivoulous tickets because they are broke and need revenue. If they don't they may get laid off or the won't be able to hire any more police officers. Fact there is never a cop around when you need one. try to prove that wrong. This is just an example of how government works on a smaller scale. Does this country need more government? They are the ones in charge and have collapsed our economy and they want to grow. If this underestimated healthcare plan gets passed it is going to open Pandoras box and be the biggest tax increase scam in history. It's going to create departments of this and that that do nothing like the SEC, FTC and so many more. People that get 65k to 120k salaries plus full benefits that very rarely do anything. The healthcare plan is a scam and once it's passed then they have the power to ammend it and they will as they bankrupt it with the corruption that history clearly shows. Wise up people or just sit back and watch your standard of living dropping and dropping. Don't fall for the propaganda that these stimulus' and governemnt healthcare is good for you and that our children and grandchildren are going to be paying for this. It's happening now! Your property values have dropped dramatically and your taxes should be going down but they are not plus they are going to hit us with taxes for the healthcare plan.

Way to go voters, you voted out the only non corrupt Mayor this town has had in a long time. Mayor Hatton ran for Mayor to make a difference in the comunity that she lived in all her life. She wasn't looking to this position to be a stepping stone for a future political office. She devoted much of her personal time to the job, and did it well. The facts are, she froze her salary, and refused a taxpayer funded car. Mayor Hatton was faced with a difficult job, and unfortunately was a minoraty in the DEM Gloucester Township government. The council fought her on most every proposal and idea. They turned their attention to partisan politics and pulled the wool over the taxpayers' eyes. The Mayer team spent millions of dollars for a job that pays just over 50k a year. Just wait and see what you fools voted in.

The Dems are going to bankrupt this country, and our children will be stuck with the results. The republicans are as bad as the dems, but at least they know how to create jobs.
the fact is, we need a real candidate. If these 2, or 3 if you count Dagget, are the best this state can come up with, we are in big trouble.
Look at you tax bill. How can Obama look tax payers in the face and tell us that Corzine is cutting property taxes. I see my tax bill...are you blind. Now they want 400Mil more to line there greedy pockets with. Vote no question 1. I say to He77 with them all. If you think these guys care about your best interest, think about this...Corzine has spent 3 Mil of his own money to secure a job that pays 145K a year. Hogwash, they're all a bunch of crooks. best bet was Steve Lonangan, but we can't have an honest person in office. That would spoil everything.

I am a Prince St resident and I would like to bitch about a tree in the 300 block of my st. I have been calling city hall for the last 5 moths trying to get this matter resolved and have gotten zilch.
The women I have talked to in city hall are useless. The rarely answer the phone and when they do they are rude. One time they pushed me off to the public works department and nobody ever answers
the phone there. The problem is there is a very large tree in front of my house and it has damaged the drains in my house and my neighbors house. The tree also protrudes out onto the street and it makes
it very difficult to park in front of it. Parking is a premium on our st, escpecially with most of them being handicapped parking spots. And I think most of them should be reviewed by the city.
So who can I contact to get this matter resolved since my own town leaders don't seam to have any control within city hall?

though and I thought it needed to be addressed. There is gross negligence within the Police Force. I never in my life saw such an obese Police Department in my life. How in the heck do the residents expect them to respond to a call which would require some physical conditioning. Lets say to rescue a fire victim or pursue a thief . And by the way, I would assume the guys in the white shirts assume some sort of leadership role? Looks like they are the biggest offenders! No pun intended! The police are the most visible entity a town has! And if an outsider can attest to their negligence, then it must start at the top!

New Jersey Dog Ownership (New Jersey)

Dog Owner Education Classes as a Prerequisite to Licensing

Owner education classes should be required of everyone applying for a dog-related license, regardless of the level of certification they seek. No true dog lover ever wants to see a dog in the possession of an irresponsible person, and pre-licensing classes could take us a long way toward keeping that from happening.

There is no doubt that such courses are long overdue. The Centers for Disease Control has recommended dog owner education programs as a means of dealing with the nation's epidemic of dog bites. The idea is to take preemptive action against biting injuries by teaching people how to select the right dog, and how to train their dogs, as well as by spelling out the responsibilities that are incumbent upon those who keep dogs. By requiring prospective dog owners to attend such a class before licensing, we could make major inroads against both the biting and the barking epidemics in one fell swoop.

Many times, dogs end up with an insider's view of a gas chamber because their owner-to-be bought a dog without knowing what he was getting into. Which is why I have no sympathy for those who think it's too much trouble to study their dog-to-be, and learn about the obligations that fall to those who choose to shoulder that responsibility. If you really want a dog, you should acknowledge your obligations and learn how to handle the animal. If you don't care enough to learn what you need to know to do the job right, then, no doubt, all parties concerned will be better off if you just forgo dog ownership altogether.

People attending owner education classes would learn about canine development. They would also learn all about selecting a dog, including the horrors of the puppy mills and the pitfalls of acquiring animals spawned in those dungeons of deprivation and suffering, which means we could shut down the puppy mills overnight through this simple measure. That alone is reason enough to require such courses.

The pre-licensing education class should be the time to tell perspective dog owners everything they need to know: All about care, housing and feeding; how to bark train a dog; where to purchase an electronic collar; an overview of the process of obedience training and instruction on how to locate a professional trainer; which breeds are most amenable to obedience training; how to prevent aggressive behavior from developing; how to cope with aggressive behavior after it is established; how to treat common ailments; how to know when it's time to call a vet, and all about health insurance for dogs.

One should never have to debate with the owner of a noisy dog about whether or not the animal can be bark trained or whether that person has an obligation to keep his dog's barking in check. Local government should go over all that with the dog owner before they ever issue him a license. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of quiet.

The owner education course would provide the instructor an opportunity to spell out the owner's obligations, and to get a written commitment from the potential owners to live up to those responsibilities. Through that process, we could ensure they are aware that they must provide medical care for their dogs, and that they know the extent of that liability, given the cost of canine medical services these days.

During the pre-license process, the city can record the licensee's phone number at work as well as those of friends or family who will be available to take immediate action if the city gets a complaint that the dog is behaving disruptively while the owner is not home. That way, when your neighbor's dog launches into barrages of frequent barking on any given day, you can phone the authorities who can then call the dog owners at work, or wherever, and tell them to go tend to the animal. Think of the countless hours of aggravation that could be avoided if local government would stop scapegoating the victims just long enough to take that much responsibility upon itself.

Finally, the issuance of a license should be contingent upon the licensee's written consent to allow the authorities to immediately impound his dog if he barks disruptively and there is no other means readily available to quiet the animal and restore peace to the neighborhood.

Food For Thought From The Chuckwagon
"Ravenwood" Comes To America
by Chuck Baldwin, October 9, 2009

Fans of the CBS-terminated TV series JERICHO will recognize the name "Ravenwood." This was the ruthless mercenary force used by the illegitimate federal government at Cheyenne to subjugate the citizens of Kansas in the aftermath of a massive nuclear attack against two dozen American cities. As with much of JERICHO's superbly written story line, Ravenwood reflected real-world entities. Private mercenary forces have been used extensively throughout the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, as well as in many other theaters. And as JERICHO correctly depicted, these "private contractors" have largely operated without oversight or accountability. (Can anyone say, "Blackwater"?) For the most part, the American people are unfamiliar with these mercenary forces, because they normally operate in foreign theaters of war. JERICHO put them on the streets of U.S. cities. Now it looks like JERICHO was more prophecy than fiction.

An underreported (what's new?) story out of a little town in Montana has brought real-life drama to the CBS blockbuster TV series. Interestingly enough, CBS is the only major news network that has covered the Montana story.

In the little town of Hardin, Montana (which is about the same size as the fictitious town of Jericho, Kansas, in the TV series), a private security firm, American Police Force (APF), has been contracted to provide all police services and to manage the operation of the town's jail. According to local news reports out of Billings, Montana, "American Police Force officials showed up in Mercedes SUV's that had 'Hardin Police' stenciled on the vehicles. The twist, the city of Hardin doesn't have a police department.

"Two Rivers Authority [the city's economic development agency] officials say having APF patrol the streets was never part of their agenda." (Source: KULR-8 Television, Billings, Montana)

Until now, the Big Horn County Sheriff's Office was responsible for patrolling the city. However, numerous Hardin citizens have testified to APF mercenaries patrolling Hardin's streets.

The Hardin jail is an interesting situation, all by itself. Completed in September 2007, the 464-bed facility has sat totally empty (which begs an investigative analysis as to how and why the facility was built in the first place). APF promises to fill the jail (with whom is not clear) and also intends to build a 30,000-square-foot military-style training facility and a 75,000-square-foot dormitory for trainees. Costs are to be covered by Ravenwood's--excuse me--APF's "business activities," which includes security and training, weapons and equipment sales, surveillance, and investigations.

Of course, under our Constitution, there can be no such thing as an "American Police Force" in the United States. Any kind of national police force is not only unconstitutional; it is anathema to everything American law and jurisprudence is built upon. Law enforcement is clearly and plainly the responsibility of the states and local communities. That a mercenary organization would take the moniker American Police Force is, by itself, disconcerting. But there is much more.

APF touts itself as providing security and investigative work to clients in "all 50 States and most Countries." It boasts having "rapid response units awaiting our orders worldwide." It further brags that it can field a battalion-sized team of Special Forces soldiers "within 72 hours." APF states that it "plays a critical role in helping the U.S. government meet vital homeland security and national defense needs."

Yet, an Associated Press search of two comprehensive federal government contractor databases turned up no record of American Police Force. Representatives of security trade groups said they had never heard of APF. Alan Chvotkin, executive vice president and counsel for the Professional Services Council, said, "They're really invisible."

An attorney for APF, Maziar Mafi, said the company was a spin-off of a major security firm, but declined to name the parent company or give any other details.

But at least one source reports, "American Police Force, the paramilitary unit patrolling a small town in Montana, has been exposed as being a front group for the disgraced private military contractor Blackwater, now called 'Xe'."

Whoever is backing APF has deep pockets; that much is for sure. That APF might be connected to Blackwater makes this situation even more problematic. But there is still more.

According to numerous local news reports, APF's lead figure has a criminal history. APF's head is a man named Michael Hilton. And recent revelations have turned up the fact that Hilton has served several years in jail--along with being served several civil judgments--for fraud. In fact, Hilton is currently scheduled to appear in a California court over an outstanding judgment in a fraud case. This has caused the Two Rivers Authority (TRA) to step back from the APF deal. And at this writing, the future of the agreement between TRA and APF is uncertain.

Adding to the dubious image of APF is the accusation that their on-the-ground leaders seem to be Russians. According to Hardin residents, the APF officer in charge had a "thick Russian accent." (Of course, Hilton himself is Serbian, and it appears that many of his personnel are likewise Serbian.) Residents also state that they were told seventy-five percent of the security officers that were to be trained would be "international." Is this what we have to look forward to: foreign mercenaries--employed by international corporations and backed by the federal government--being used to police American cities?

Local protests against the introduction of APF mercenaries in Hardin have already caused APF to change its name. Late news reports state that the private contractor is now operating under the name of American Private Police Force.

In the meantime, Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock has launched an investigation into the Hardin matter. According to the AG's office, the investigation is predicated upon concerns that the company might be violating the Montana Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Act.

The Hardin saga is both noteworthy and troublesome. It is the latest example--but certainly not the first--of how private security companies are being employed as law enforcement personnel.

Retired lawman Jim Kouri recently wrote a fascinating piece in which he chronicles the growing trend of private security companies exercising police powers. Kouri summarizes an American Society for Industrial Security report, saying, "There are more than one million contract security guards, with perhaps another million guards who are proprietary security officers who are hired directly by businesses and institutions. On the other hand, there are about 700,000 sworn law enforcement officers working for towns, cities, counties, states and the federal government."

Of course, most of these "private police" mercenaries are military-trained. And they are also the ones providing most of the military-style training to America's various law enforcement agencies.

Kouri goes on to point out that Lexington's (Kentucky) Police Department contracted Blackwater Security International to provide "homeland security training." And in New Orleans, Louisiana, mercenaries openly patrol city streets. Kouri notes Blackwater officials as saying they are on contract with the Department of Homeland Security and have been given the authority "to use lethal force if necessary."

See Kouri's column at

http://newswithviews.com/BreakingNews/breaking168.htm

All of the above is disconcerting enough, but when one factors in President Barack Obama's desire to create a "Civilian Defense Force," potential problems only intensify. For example, in 1995, the United Nations' International Police Task Force (UNIPTF) was created. Ostensibly, the UNIPTF was formed to "carry out programs of police assistance in Bosnia and Herzegovina." Then, in 2003 the Civilian Police International (CPI) was created. This was a joint venture between the U.S. State Department and such notable private companies as Wackenhut and Kellogg Brown & Root (a Halliburton company; and, by the way, so is Blackwater. But this is just a coincidence, right?). The stated purpose was for "international law enforcement and criminal justice programs." Inertia for mercenary-style (backed by the federal--or even international--government) law enforcement has been growing ever since.

The question must then be asked: "Could the whole APF and Hardin, Montana, affair be a test run for Obama's budding Civilian Defense Force?"

In the CBS TV series, JERICHO, residents resisted the federal government's mercenary force, Ravenwood, and fought ferociously for their freedom and independence. At the time the show aired, it all seemed like fantasy. But if you talk with the residents of Hardin, Montana, today, they might say that fantasy is fast becoming reality.

Stay alert, America: your town could be next.

Rational Health Care Reform (District 3)

Rational Health Care Reform

Protect your rights to free choice in healthcare and preserve your access to the best healthcare in the nation. Doctor Villare brings needed expertise to Trenton for advancement of healthcare to all New Jerseyeans.

Rational Health Care Reform

The current policies proposed in Washington would result in a government takeover of the health care system. These policies would remove all decision-making concerning personal healthcare matters.

There is agreement on many of the problems that plague our current system. They are a lack of accessibility, portability and affordability. The elements to a viable solution would address these issues, yet maintain quality and individual empowerment. They include:

Create tax equity by equalizing the tax treatment between employer paid health insurance and individual health care plans. Currently, employer provided insurance is paid with pretax dollars and individual health insurance is not. Replacing the current tax exclusion with a system of universal credits would make personal, portable plans market-driven and lower their costs. The government could then direct health insurance savings to help poor individuals and families, as well as those with preexisting conditions, purchase private health insurance.

One type of insurance that has proven to reduce costs is to combine health savings accounts with a high deductible health insurance plan. Typically, money not spent in one year (in the health savings account) rolls over to the next year and can grow over time. This creates an incentive to spend these dollars much more carefully. The premium cost for the insurance component is significantly less expensive.

Deregulate interstate insurance so insurance companies can compete across state lines. Health insurance should be able to be purchased from any insurance company in any state. Market based reforms would result, because costly government mandates are eliminated. Consumers could tailor their health insurance to their needs.
Establishing medical malpractice reform would reduce health care costs. Defensive medicine (when doctors perform every conceivable test to protect themselves from malpractice suits) cost between $100 billion to $200 billion each year. These costs are passed on to patients through much higher prices for health care. Higher prices for health care causes higher prices for health insurance.

Enact medical record-keeping through use of health information technology. Today, a card no bigger than a credit card can hold your entire medical history. This allows doctors and hospitals to instantly access needed medical information.
Adopt a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, many health related issues are self-induced. Cardiac disease, diabetes and obesity are often preventable if proper diet, moderate exercise, not smoking and other positive lifestyle choices are adopted.

Ensuring patients take their medications. There are many wonderful drugs that help fight chronic disease and cancer. These drugs increase our longevity and allow us to live a better quality of life. Often times, patients don’t take medications as prescribed by their doctors contributing to $290 billion a year in avoidable medical spending (including excess hospitalizations). The reasons for noncompliance vary from side effects, the challenge of managing multiple prescriptions, forgetfulness, reduced sense of need if patients don’t feel any symptoms and cost. Poor medication compliance is a major roadblock to healthcare efficiency. Solutions to this problem include delivering better care to seniors by offering assistance in the elderly patient’s home thus keeping them out of costly nursing facilities, patient education, simplify drug regimens, reducing the cost of drugs for chronic diseases and closer monitoring of patients to improve compliance.

Healthcare reform is essential. Whatever reforms are undertaken, it is mandatory that they be fiscally responsible. The result should not be a centralized, heavy-handed, massive, one-size-fits-all government system. Bureaucrats would ultimately control all healthcare decisions resulting in rationing and much higher taxes. Individuals and families should be able to choose their doctors and be the key decision-makers in their own healthcare.
