This Kitchen Aid mixer was used for many years by my wife for mixing and preparing cookie, cake, and bread batters. She received a newer Kitchen Aid mixer a few years ago when this one originally starting slipping. After further investigation and online research, I was able to rebuild this mixer to get it back to original working order. All it needed was a new nylon drive gear and now it works great! The design is smart because the nylon gear is meant to wear out over time and usage, so it saves the mixer motor (or other components) from wearing out. (My wife got years of use out of this mixer before the original gear wore out, just to give you an idea....).
I even have a short video I can send so you can see the variable speed drive increase and decrease speed when the switch is moved back and forth. I also replaced the gearbox with the recommended food-grade grease, a new housing gasket, and both switch knobs. It cost about $32 in replacement parts and about four hours in total labor. So, I feel the price is fair (and FIRM) at this time since I had to put time and money into it in order to get it working again, and new ones go for at least $200+.
The white cloth cover is pretty stained up, so I realize this may need to be replaced, but the price is still firm for everything else!
