We are seeking a reliable and experienced tutor to provide in-person support for an 18-year-old freshman with physical and cognitive challenges who is attending Camden County College. He is excited about this next step toward independence but needs check-ins to ensure he remains up to date on coursework. Your role will be to offer patient and compassionate support with executive functioning and assignments.
About the Student:
• Has arthrogryposis: uses braces for short distances and a power wheelchair for longer ones
• Has some cognitive issues, including aphasia, but can be articulate, thoughtful, and intellectually engaged
• Enjoys discussing politics, racial and social justice, and music
• Currently requires the most support with writing tasks
• Friendly and talkative with guidance, but tends to isolate when not prompted or does not feel comfortable
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
• Experience working with individuals with physical or developmental disabilities
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Background in occupational therapy, social work, education, psychology, or a related field
• B.A. or higher degree
• Respect for autonomy, privacy, and the dignity of young adults with disabilities
Additional Info:
• This position will start with check-ins with parent after each session and gradually taper based on the student’s progress
